The participating Programs will include:
· The CTE HUB (open to CMS Violet Transportation Zones)
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Options HUB for the North Learning Community provides engaging curriculum to students in grades 9-12. There are 4 career clusters that are offered at North Meck High Technical Institute. The pathways, will allow for the students to complete a four course concentration requirement in the Future Ready Core Plus and provide students with the knowledge to be competitive citizens in the 21st century.
o Automotive- students will learn automotive skills and have job opportunities in the auto repair industry. Topics include engine theory, automotive service preventive maintenance, brake repair, electrical systems troubleshooting, safety, test equipment, and measuring
o AgriScience- includes two pathways Horticulture and Vet Tech.
All 9th grade students complete an AgriScience course and in the 10th grade year choose a pathway to Horticulture or Vet Tech.
Horticulture covers instruction that expands scientific knowledge and skills to include more advanced scientific computations and communication skills needed in the horticulture industry. Topics include greenhouse plant production and management, bedding plant production, watering systems, light effects, basic landscape design, installation and maintenance, lawn and turf-grass management, and personal development.
Vet Tech instruction is for students desiring a career in animal medicine. Topics include proper veterinary practice management and client relations, pharmacy and laboratory procedure, advanced animal care, and surgical/radiological procedures.
o Cosmetology- students will have learn advanced development of processes techniques and skills. Topics include artificial nail, nail art, advanced chemical restructuring, advanced color techniques, facials, hair extensions, and advanced hair styling
o Culinary Arts-students will have advanced experiences in cold and hot food production, management (front and back of the house), and service skills. Topics include menu planning, business management, and guest relations.
· The International Baccalaureate (open to CMS Violet Transportation Zone)
The International Baccalaureate Program (IBP) provides highly motivated college bound students with an opportunity to pursue a rigorous liberal arts curriculum. The IBP focuses on world language, humanities, advanced math and an intensive study of core subjects integrating internationalism and areas of interaction. Students demonstrate a strong commitment to learning, both in terms of mastery of the subject content and in the development of the skills and discipline necessary for success in the IB program in grades 11 and 12 where international exams begin.
· The World Language Magnet (open to CMS Violet and Gray Transportation Zones)
Students of the 21st century will need to be proficient in more than one language in order to become contributing members of our global society. The vision of the World Languages program is to provide experiences for students to meet this challenge by offering rigorous cognitive challenges in their target language and unique, enriching, real-life experiences and applications in business, cultural and social settings. There are entrance requirements for this magnet program
· The ROTC Program (North Meck Home School Students ONLY)
The CMS JROTC Program emphasizes character education, student achievement, wellness, leadership, citizenship, service to community and diversity. Its focus is reflected in its mission “To motivate young people to be better citizens.” It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while fostering in each school a more constructive and disciplined learning environment. The attributes of self-discipline, teamwork, self-confidence, responsiveness to constituted authority and patriotism are developed.
