Senator Joel Ford Visits North Meck Technical Institute
Huntersville NC, December 3, 2015: Senator Joel Ford, District 38 Representative for the State of North Carolina visited North Mecklenburg High School’s Technical Institute in Huntersville today. Mr. Ford met with Mr. Rocca’s 10th grade Civics and Economics class to discuss the state of commerce in North Carolina.
The Senator attended a small meet and greet with the Principal Sonya McInnis and other staff members. “It was a pleasure to have Senator Ford visit our facility today,” said Principal McInnis. “We introduced him to North Meck’s diverse magnet program options and our workforce development program. We discussed how workforce development is currently one of the single largest concerns that local businesses face now and in the future. Mr. Ford was shown how our automotive program helps alleviate this gap by offering young men and women the opportunity for a well-paying career and a college credit. He agreed that the economic recovery we are in won’t be much of a recovery if we don’t have the skilled people to meet the growing demands. We went on a tour of the North Meck Technical Institute facility where he saw first-hand the students in automotive, cosmetology, culinary arts and horticulture hard at work. I appreciate the time he was able to take out of his busy schedule to visit us and would welcome him back at any time.”
North Mecklenburg High school was founded 65 years ago and expanded to include the Technical Institute three years ago. Today, we have 200 students participating in the Institute with a goal of expanding to 400 in the next three years.
